Hitting Tip - 10

If a batter intentionally or unintentionally opens or closes when he strides and prepares to hit, he is changing directions of his stride as he steps with his front foot. This will take him away from a direct line to the pitcher and will make it difficult for the hitter to square up the ball with the barrel of the bat. It is OK, however, to start with an open or closed stance as long as the stride takes the hitter directly toward the pitcher.
